Our Coffee

At Brew Bags Coffee Company, we love cold brew but have to admit: cleaning a cold brew pitcher stinks. It's messy, tedious, bad for the drain, and somehow always leaves coffee grounds on every kitchen surface imaginable. So, one day we thought, "what if there was a better way?"

Dirty Coffee Grounds in the Sink

Cold brew makers will feel this image in their bones.

The idea for brew bags was born: Single-serving coffee pouches that functioned like cold brew pitchers but were recyclable and compostable so we never had to clean another cold brew pitcher again.

We started asking questions and experimenting: how much coffee should be put in each bag to make a good brew? How mesh-y do the tea bags need to be? Does coffee ground coarseness matter? I already had been blending coffee for about a decade, but I started to diligently record my recipes for each flavored and unflavored coffee blend.

Once we thought we had the perfect brew bags, we enlisted in volunteers living across the country -- New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, and Philadelphia -- and honed the recipes even further until we perfectly balanced the natural bitterness of coffee with complementary flavors.

Our coffee beans, grounds, and brew bags are all 100% Arabica coffee from the foothills of Colombia. I chose Colombian coffee because it is typically a bit milder than other coffees, which lends itself well to the addition of flavors and other blending.
